Cherry Crucifix

This Crucifix was created for a silent auction benefiting a Lutheran Christian School in Southern Illionos.

Walnut Fishing Rod Rack

This commission was for an upscale, high end spinning fishing rod rack modeled after some commercial units like you see in sporting goods stores.  The customer opted for a solid Black Walnut rack with Hard Maple accents. Everything is mounted on a Lazy Susan and it holds 16 rods.

Giant Dog Bed

This commission was for a giant dog bed and it had to be on casters.  The dog it was built for is an older dog and has trouble getting around, but he’s too big for the owner to easily move.  The bed is on casters and has hookups for the “wagon handle” on either end and is clad in Cypress with Walnut pegged corners.

Torsion Box Cherry Mantel

This project was interesting because the customer provided the Cherry lumber. Not a piece was straight or flat! One challenge was that the mounting points on the hearth could not hold a lot of weight, thus the torsion box design. I sculpted the final product with 80 grit sandpaper and the Festool Rotex sander.  The finish is General Finishes

Headboard Stretching

This was a challenging project and actually kind of scary.  I had to take a perfectly good twin bed headboard and ruin it by cutting it in two. Then I had to create a center extension that matched to “stretch” it into a headboard for a full size bed. Plus working with Pine is never fun, as it blotches when finishing.

Welcome to Myrtle Manor

Measuring a gigantic 22′ by 17′ the iconic sign for the TV show was originally built more as a set piece and has not held up to the elements well at all.  I constructed the replacement out of Extira, which is an exterior grade MDF, and coated it with 3 coats of General Finishes Milk Paint, which in turn is topped with 3 coats of General Finishes Exterior 450 in satin.  It should last a good long while! Before and After

Torsion Box Shelves

Measuring h-4′ x’ d-7″ x w-30″ these box shelves are constructed entirely of MDF as the customer did not want any wood grain at all.  A single 3/4″ board w-28.5″ x h-2.5″ will be mounted on the wall and then the box fitted around it and screwed from the top.

King Headboard

The customer wanted a fairly simple Walnut headboard to go with their steel frame, but they wanted it tall!

Entertainment Center

Originally this center was built around a floor model flat screen TV.  When that TV died I retrofitted in the center cabinet with glass doors so the homeowner could keep his components dust free and still operate by remote
